Book/Chapbook/Zine Reviews

Thank you for your interest in submitting to Hermana Resist Press.

We are currently looking for POC, WOC, LGBTQIA, and allies to review chapbooks, novellas, novels, nonfiction, and zines written by authors from marginalized and underrepresented communities.

Review Guidelines:

While we prefer reviews for books self-published or published independently, by a micro-press, or by a small press, we will accept reviews of books published by major publishing houses by an author with the previously mentioned attributes

Reviews should be between 500-800 words

We would like our reviews to lean more towards recommendations whether than critiques, so please think of your review more as a way of explaining why you liked what you read and why you think others will as well

Reviews should be double-spaced with 12 point font.

Please place your name and a short bio (around 150 words) with any website/social media links in the body of the email, attach your review as a Word document, and send it to alanacking@gmail.com with LASTNAME Book Review typed in the subject line.

Note: Hermana ResistPress is currently all-volunteer. We are not able to monetarily compensate our contributors at this time, but we are actively searching for income sources that will allow us to do so as soon as possible.

Call For Regular Reviewers

Do you love to read? Can you commit to writing a book review at least once every other month (for a total of six reviews each year)?

If so, we’d love for you to become a Regular Reviewer. In your column, you can regularly review titles and authors that fit our requirements (chapbooks, novellas, novels, nonfiction, and zines written by POC, WOC, LGBTQIA, or others from marginalized/underrepresented communities)

Your column can be as broad or as narrow (just YA titles or Poetry Chapbooks for example) as you wish.

To apply for a Regular Reviewer position, please send the following in an email to alanacking@gmail.com with LASTNAME Regular Reviewer App in the subject line:

Brief bio

  • Links to any book reviews you have previously written
  • Brief response as to why you wish to become a Regular Reviewer at Hermana ResistPress
  • Brief response as to why you believe it is important to read and review pieces written by those from marginalized or underrepresented communities

Note: Regular Reviewers are asked to give at least us at least a year (at least six reviews published at least once every other month) If you’re not able to devote that kind of time, please consider submitting a single review.

Note: Hermana ResistPress is currently all-volunteer. We are not able to monetarily compensate our contributors at this time, but we are actively searching for income sources that will allow us to do so as soon as possible.

Call For Books To Be Reviewed

Are you a POC, WOC, LGBTQIA or from a marginalized/underrepresented community? Have you just published a chapbook, novella, novel, nonfiction, or a zine? Congratulations! If you are looking for someone to review your work, you’ve come to the right place. Hermana ResistPress is looking to give a platform to the underrepresented authors and would love to add your book to our To Be Reviewed List.

We accept e-books, PDFs, or physical book copies.

To send us a link of your book to be reviewed, please place your author bio and a brief synopsis along with the link in the body of your email and send it to alanacking@gmail.com with LASTNAME Book To Be Reviewed in the subject line.
