I’ve added the sections of the guide I'm putting together on using alt media and zines for lessons to teach and for the community. Just a few things I’ve learned and used through out the years. Questions? Corrections? LMK. the photos are just placeholders, I initially was going to make this into a zine with cute lil fotos, but it became unbearable-to large to handle and to many things were going on. So I just worked on the content when I could. And still so much time has passed! Every time I look up, another rocket or some other thing has exploded alla. things have changed, folks are doing amazing things. but the stuff I’ve put up here and brought up can be used for just about any other cause or concern in any area. <3 I'll have to change how I link to these pretty soon, maybe put them in a file drive.

Upcoming sections:
Collecting Testimonios, stories & more: Preserving Community Voices Impacted by SpaceX Operations
Alt Media for Environmental Impact of SpaceX’s Operations in Brownsville and the Surrounding Areas: lessons ready 2 go

what are the differences between environmental justice, environmental degradation and environmental racism?

what are the differences between environmental justice, environmental degradation and environmental racism?

Each of these concepts is interconnected. Environmental justice cannot be achieved without addressing environmental degradation and environmental racism.

Environmental degradation, on the other hand, refers to the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources and destruction of ecosystems.

Think of degradation of the continual process of damage to the environment that can lead to irreversible changes.

Environmental racism is the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on people of color.

Think of situations where harmful industries are close to communities of color, leading to adverse health effects & decreased quality of life. This is a manifestation of environmental racism, where marginalized communities bear the brunt of environmental degradation.

Put it all together & you get a complex web of environmental issues that are deeply rooted in social inequity.

If I was teaching this, I'd probably use a meme or two somewhere here, which the kids would say would be very cringe.

Don't limit yourself

I use the theory of edupunk and my poet-curanderx background to create an alternative form of teaching outside of the classroom. This involves creating zines, resources, and books.

absurb, noemi, yr out of bounds! I've been called worse.

I created resources to include in zine kits, which I’m also making available here.
